As he approaches 101 years, WWII war veteran and Association member and founder, Harry Shindler, wins his relentless battle to abolish the 15 year voting rule. The limitation of the 15 year voting rule has finally been addressed in the Election Bills which received royal assent on Thursday April 28th. It states “New measures will also expand participation in our democracy by removing the 15-year limit on British citizens overseas voting in UK Parliamentary elections”.The full bill can be consulted here. Association President, Rosa Fusco, spoke to Harry to congratulate him on behalf of the association. He said “It is the end of a very long road, justice has been done where there was injustice, as the right to vote is the pillar of a democratic society”. Kudos to Harry for this incredible achievement!
